Comparing two offers properly

Take a R2,000 bonus at 40x wagering against a R1,000 bonus at 15x. The first looks twice as good and requires R80,000 of stakes to release; the second requires R15,000. Unless you were planning an enormous volume of play, the smaller bonus is the one you can actually convert.

The comparison that matters is therefore not the bonus amount but the stakes-to-bonus ratio: how much play stands between the offer and your bank account. Divide the required turnover by the bonus and compare that number across offers. It takes ten seconds and it inverts most rankings you will see advertised.

The word that doubles the requirement

Watch for whether wagering applies to the bonus alone or to bonus plus deposit. On a R1,000 deposit matched by a R1,000 bonus at 30x, the first phrasing requires R30,000 of stakes and the second requires R60,000. Same money, same headline, twice the work — and the difference is two words in the terms.

Game weighting, the quiet multiplier

Not every rand you stake counts as a rand of wagering. Slots usually contribute 100%. Table games and live dealer frequently contribute 10%, sometimes 5%, sometimes nothing at all. Clearing a 30x bonus on blackjack at 10% weighting means staking three hundred times the bonus rather than thirty.

The honest position on South African offers
